China 's power consumption in 2012 rose 5.5% from a year earlier to 4.9591 trillion kilowatt-hours, data from the National Energy Administration showed Monday.

The nation's power consumption increased 11.7% in 2011.

By the end of last year, power generation capacity totalled 1.144 billion kilowatts, including 249 million kilowatts generated by water and 819 million kilowatts by thermal power, the NEA said.
