Eni SpA (E) said Monday that output at its Mellitah plant in Libya had restarted following a suspension in natural-gas exports because of clashes between militants over the weekend.

The shutdown resulted in the suspension of Libyan gas exports to
Italy , which represent about 10% of the European energy country's needs.

"We confirm the restart of Mellitah site," an Eni spokesman said Monday. No other details were available.

On Saturday, Eni's local joint venture was forced to shut down the complex in northwestern
Libya following clashes between rival militia.

Earlier Monday, Leonardo Bellodi, Eni executive vice president of government affairs, said the undersea Greenstream pipeline, which carried about 8 billion cubic meters of gas a year to
Italy , can begin exporting 24 hours to 36 hours after output restarts.
