The consortium planning the Nabucco pipeline said Monday it has signed an agreement with Tanap, the other planned pipeline, that would feed it with Caspian natural gas, in an effort to increase technical and strategic cooperation.

If linked together, the two pipelines would bring gas from the giant Shah Deniz offshore
Azerbaijan all the way to Austria . Tanap is expected to carry gas across Turkey , but the European route hasn't been chosen yet, and Nabucco is competing with the Trans Adriatic Pipeline, which would take the gas to Italy .

"Nabucco and Tanap will exchange technical and other strategic information and cooperate in a manner that will support the development of their respective projects," the Nabucco consortium said in a statement.
