Removing global energy subsidies could lead to a 13% decline in carbon dioxide emissions and generate substantial environmental benefits, the International Monetary Fund says. Raising energy prices to levels that would eliminate all subsidies on oil products would cut carbon dioxide emissions by 4.5B tons and reduce pollution from sulfur dioxide by 10M tons, it adds.
