Romanian energy output fell in the first two months of the year, hit by falling production in the thermal and nuclear power sectors, news agency Mediafax reports Friday, citing official data.

Energy output fell 7.1% on the year earlier to 3.56 million tons of oil equivalent. Thermal power output decreased 18.8% on the year to 5.52 billion kilowatts hour, while nuclear production fell 2.1% to 1.99 billion KWh, the statistics institute INS said.

Hydropower production rose 23.3% on the year to 2 billion KWh in January through February. A month earlier, output in the sector increased 31% on year.

Wind farm production rose to 873.6 million KWh in the first two months, from 440.7 million KWh in the same period of 2012.

Romania 's primary energy resources fell 7.3% on the year to 4.99 million tons of oil equivalent in the period.

Electric energy resources dropped 5.6% to 10.53 billion KWh, due to a 4.6% decline in production.

Romanian final power consumption reached 8.77 billion KWh in the first two months, a fall of 4.6% from the year0-earlier period. Household consumption was stable on the year, but public illumination fell 8.8%.
