Romanian energy output fell 6.1% on the year to 7.29 million tons of oil equivalent in the first four months of 2013, hurt by lower thermal sector production, news agency Mediafax reports Thursday citing official data.

Thermal energy output slumped 20.3% on the year to 9.24 billion kilowatts hour, while nuclear power production fell 1% to around 4 billion KWh, the statistics institute INS said.

Renewable energy output grew, however, with hydropower production rising 26.1% on the year to 5.1 billion KWh in the period, while wind output more than doubled to 1.82 billion KWh.

Romania 's primary energy resources fell 12.1% on the year to almost 10 million tons of oil equivalent in the four-month period, the data showed.

Electric energy resources fell 3.3% to 20.4 billion KWh, largely due to a 2% decline in production.

Electricity exports declined 10.3% year-on-year to 440.6 million KWh, while final power consumption slipped 3.7% to 17.2 billion KWh in the first four months.
