Austrian crude oil and natural gas producer OMV AG (OMV.VI) said Wednesday its gas pipeline project Nabucco West has lost the tender process to channel natural gas from the Caspian region to central Europe.

In a written statement, OMV said that the BP PLC-led (BP) gas field consortium Shah Deniz 2 has informed the company about the decision not to pick Nabucco West as the pipeline that will transport its gas.

OMV didn't say which pipeline has been chosen instead, but the only competing bid was made by the Trans-Adriatic-Pipeline, known as TAP.

"The decision does not influence OMV's strategy of growing upstream and integrated gas," the company said.

"OMV intends to play a role in further securing and diversifying the gas supply to Europe and will assess alternatives to complement the existing supply routes," the company added.
