Anonima Petroli Italiana SpA, a privately held Italian refiner and service-station operator, said Tuesday it has restarted operations at its Italian refinery after renovation works were completed ahead of schedule.

"The Falconara refinery started again on July 1, although we did the official opening ceremony Monday," said company spokesman Daniele de Sanctis. "We are almost back up to 100% [capacity]."

The refinery, which is located on the Adriatic coast and has a capacity of about 80,000 barrels a day, was shut down at the start of 2013 and had been scheduled to remain closed for the whole year.
