Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told business leaders Thursday that his government seeks "constructive engagement" with the world to promote economic development as well as peaceful coexistence.

In a wide-ranging speech at the World Economic Forum, he said Iran has the potential to be one of the world's top 10 economies in the next decade and that he would use foreign policy to achieve economic development.

The Iranian president hopes to persuade foreign investors to return to his country, which is keen to revive its ageing oil fields once international sanctions are fully lifted. World powers relaxed some sanctions after Iran scaled back its nuclear program, clearing the way for negotiations on a final settlement of the decade-long dispute over its nuclear ambitions.

" Iran is prepared to engage in constructive cooperation in promoting global energy security by relying on its vast energy resources in a framework of mutual interest," the Iranian leader said at the gathering at the Swiss ski resort of Davos. "We are prepared to engage in a serious process to establish reliable institutions for this longterm partnersip."

He urged business leaders to travel to Iran to explore extensive opportunities for investment.

The security of production and supply is the biggest factor in using energy to promote peace and stability, he said.
