Unless Europe's energy and industry sectors start getting competitive, "the answer for us is to get out of Europe," said Jesse Scott, head of the environment and sustainable development policy unit at Eurelectric.
According to several policy analysts, in order for EU industry and energy sectors to reach Europe 2020 goals and remain competitivethe EU must complete its internal market and integrate infrastructure, sooner rather than later.
Tomas Wyns, a researcher at the Institute for European Studies, said current policies are at odds with each other, with new energy governance implementation happening before the EU's internal market is fully integrated.
For now no decisions are getting made, due to major political events in the coming months, such as the EEG state aid and exemptions case, the Essent case and the EEG revision, Scott said. However, if steps aren't taken soon, the EU will have to give up progressing at a "walking pace," instead having to do a sprint in order to reach energy and industry goals by 2020.
