Ukraine Energy Minister Yury Prodan said Wednesday talks between his country, Russia, Slovakia and the European Commission over a gas crisis had been called off after two sides pulled out.
"We have received information that the European (energy) commissioner will not attend the talks; the minister from the Russian side will not participate in the negotiations either," Prodan told reporters during a briefing.
Prodan said he saw no reason for him to participate in the talks, given the withdrawals.
The meeting between the energy ministers of the three countries and the EU energy commissioner were scheduled to be held in Bratislava, Slovakia on Thursday to seek ways out of Ukraine's energy crisis.
The political tension and a payment dispute between Kiev and Moscow triggered concerns Russia could cut off its gas supplies to Ukraine.
To trim its reliance on Russian supplies, which cost 485 U.S. dollars per 1,000 cubic meters in the second quarter of 2014, Kiev was seeking to launch a reverse gas flow from western Europe through Slovakia.
