Eustream hasn't detected any drop in pressure or the volume of gas flows incoming from Ukraine to the EU at its Velke Kapusany compression station, confirmed Slovak gas operator Eustream spokesman Vahram Chuguryan on Monday.

Chuguryan spoke in reaction to news reports that Russia's Gazprom is to halt gas flows to Ukraine because Ukrainian company Naftogaz failed to pay at least a portion of its gas debt by the set deadline of Monday.

"We'll continue to monitor the situation at the Slovak-Ukrainian border closely and evaluate it," said Chuguryan.

According to the spokesman, Eustream is ready to provide 23.8 million cubic metres of gas from Austria and 67 million cubic metres from the Czech Republic daily via reverse flows.

"These are declared technical peak values that the Slovak gas carrier will meet," he informed. Also under consideration is the Slovak-Hungarian interconnection, of which the Slovak side has been completed.

"The new pipeline could provide emergency supplies to Hungary, but the fast-tracked completion of work on the Hungarian side is called for," he claimed.

Eustream is a natural gas-infrastructure operator, whose task is to transport gas to Slovakia and across Slovak territory to European markets.

Eustream owns and operates high-pressure transport infrastructure that consists of more than 2,255 kilometres of parallel pipes and four compressor stations with installed output exceeding 600 MW.
