Belgium has increased its offshore wind energy capacity in the first half of 2014, according to the latest report by the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA), published on Monday.

According to the report, Belgium connected 47 wind turbines to the national grid in the period January 1 to June 30 2014.

In addition, a further 30 turbines were installed in the first half of 2014. Completion of an offshore wind farm also took place.

Belgium now has 141 megawatts of energy from offshore wind farms fully connected to the national grid.

In the first six months of the year, a total of 224 wind turbines were fully connected to the national grid in 3 European countries, Belgium, Germany and Britain, amounting to 781 megawatts.

The total installed offshore wind capacity in Europe is 7,343 megawatts in 73 wind farms across 11 countries.
