Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Janusz Piechocinski
reassured on Wednesday that
Poland
's gas supplies are sufficient for
the country's needs.
Piechocinski said there was no need of overstating the information about
Russia
reducing the gas supplies to
Poland
.
PGNiG, Polish largest gas and oil exploration and production company,
informed that since Monday the supply of natural gas provided by Russian
Gazprom company, carried out under the Yamal contract, has been reduced.
On Monday the gas supply has been reduced by about 20 percent, while on
Tuesday by some 24 percent in relation to the daily orders placed by the Polish
side.
According to Polish media, PGNiG sought clarification from Gazprom and
the company denied the gas supply reduction.
Piechocinski assured that the Polish side is monitoring the
situation, and that
Poland
has "record gas stores".
He also added that
Poland
is ready to import gas from the
western direction and there is no need to worry about Polish gas safety.
Piechocinski also assured that the program of drilling and gas
exploration is being continued in
Poland
, and the gas storage power is
supposed to be expanded for another billion cubic meters.
"We didn't get any signals that supplies from the east might be
disrupted," he said.
The PGNiG company has also announced that the gas delivery is running
smoothly and there is currently no need to begin drawing gas from the
underground storage facilities fully filled before the winter.
