The Belgian federal police averted a major terrorist attack in the European capital. High ranking European officials in Brusselspraised the work of the Belgian authorities in the matter. Earlier today, the Commission’s Spokesman stated that the Belgian terrorist events do not concern the European Commission.

Speaking with ordinary Commission functionaries, talking on the condition of anonymity expresses their concern of the security of the various Commission buildings, over 80 big blocks in Brussels. Indeed, the general understanding is that while the security outside the buildings is excellent, the situation within the buildings including garages, with the exception of the three main buildings - theBerlaymont, the Parliament and the Council, requires additional security measures.

The security of the European institutions was discussed last night among the President and Commissioners involved in the subject, until the early morning hours.

The success of the Belgian authorities stands in the fact that they have meticulously studied all data available and in particular travel lists wherefrom suspects were identified. This, apparently, was not done by the French.
