Iran’s nuclear programme was discussed by the country’s foreign minister, Mohamad Javad Zarif, and his German and French counterparts, on the sidelines of the June 22 meeting of top European Union diplomats in Luxembourg.

In an interview with Iranian state TV, Zarif said all sides in the nuclear talks should avoid “excessive” demands in order for an agreement to be reached before the June 30 deadline.

In a statement after meeting with Zari, France’s Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said his country wants a “robust” agreement with Iran.

“What does that mean? That means an extensive regime of verification, including if necessary, military sites and it means that it is necessary to foresee an automatic return to sanctions in case Iran violates its commitments,” he explained.

Iran’s nuclear programme will lead to the removal of economic sanctions against the country, which have crippled the economy.

Iran is currently negotiating with six countries: the United States, Russia, China and EU members Britain, France and Germany.

In April, US President Barack Obama said the new framework would cut off every pathway that Iran could take to develop a nuclear weapon.
