Bulgarian state power exporter NECT said yesterday it had signed two deals to supply electricity to Western Europe, just a day after the Balkan region’s grid was reconnected to the rest of the Continent.
The Union for the Coordination and Transmission of Electricity (UCTE) reopened power flows between Southeast Europe and the rest of the European Union on Tuesday, 13 years after transmission was halted by the war in former Yugoslavia.
NECT, the largest electricity exporter in the Balkans, said it will offer 50 megawatt hours on European energy bourses and had signed a contract to sell another 50 megawatt hours to a Western European client by the end of the year. “This is the company’s first step in the power market outside its traditional Balkan region (market),” the company said in a statement.
