Heavy consumers of electricity during the peak summer period (July-August) will be penalized, while moderate users will be awarded discounts on their electricity bills, Deputy Development Minister Giorgos Salagoudis has announced. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Salagoudis said that a report about how to ensure an adequate supply of electricity at peak times this year will be published “in a few days’ time.” It will emphasize energy savings and managing demand along Greece’s electricity grid “so that, during the summer, those who reduce their demand are rewarded and, conversely, those who increase their demand at peak times are penalized,” Salagoudis said. Greece’s electricity grid suffers from an imbalance, with production concentrated in the north and consumption in the south, which makes crisis management difficult.
