Electricite de France (EdF) tomorrow is launching its first wind park in Greece, on Mount Didymon in the eastern Peloponnese. The park has a 36-megawatt capacity and forms part of the 500-million-euro program that EdF has planned for the Greek market. The French company first expressed an interest in power production from renewable sources in Greece through its EN Hellas subsidiary three years ago but plans were frozen due to a multitude of red tape and other problems. The interest was revived after recent initiatives by the Development Ministry, the Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) and the Hellenic Investment Center (ELKE). The project will be launched in the presence of Development Minister Dimitris Sioufas. In a written statement, ELKE President Yiannis Anastassopoulos said the project is a “validation of the new strategy for attracting foreign investors through an aggressive marketing program” in specific sectors in which the country has comparative advantages.
