The Public Power Corporation (PPC) can always build electricity production units, but it is excluded from bidding for private units, to produce 900 megawatts, said Development Minister Dimitris Sioufas. Addressing the 10th National Energy Conference “Energy and Development 2005,” he said no one can stop PPC from making lignite units in Drama or Elassona, where there are lignite deposits, provided all legislative conditions are fulfilled. The minister reiterated that the tender conditions for the 900MW units will be made public for consultation. He added that the bill for the establishment of the National Energy Strategy Council will be introduced in Parliament next week, with a bill on renewable energy sources to follow next month.
