Iran Resumes Natural Gas Supplies to Turkey (08/01/2007)

Iran resumed shipments of natural gas to Turkey yesterday, almost a week after cutting them off, the state-owned Anatolia news agency reported. Iran had cut its supply of gas to Turkey on January 3, saying it needed to meet increased domestic demand. The move had created anxiety in Turkey, which receives almost all of its natural gas from Iran and Russia. Natural gas is commonly used for heating in Turkey. Iran had promised not to reduce gas supplies after Tehran reduced the flow of natural gas to Turkey last year during a cold snap. The recent cut had fueled some speculation that the move was political. (The Associated Press, 07/01/2007)
