The Greek Development Minister Dimitris Sioufas in a bid to downplay Russian’s president Vladimir Putin staunch warning on the continuous delays over the Burgas-Alexandroupolis pipeline said late Thursday that President Putin’s comments confirm Russian government’s interest for the project. “Delegations of the three countries are in negotiations and I am optimistic that in the 7th February meeting there will be a finalization of the text for the agreement of the pipeline. The official signing of the agreement was expected before the end of 2006. However, disagreements between Russia and Bulgaria has delayed the signing. Reportedly, the disagreements were focused on matters as to who will control the port facilities in the Burgas region and for how long.
