Hellenic Transmission System Operator chairman sees the completion of the tender for the for the first private electricity production unit by the end of April.
“If we don’t have any objections and the process proceeds smoothly, we will be in a position to name the winner of the tender by the end of April,” HTSO chairman Evangelos Lekatsas told energia.gr.
HTSO announced late Thursday that four consortia submitted bids-namely, Hellenic Technodomiki, with Edison and Viohalco, Enel with Prometheas Gas, Heron Thermoelectric, with GEK, and Iderdrola with Motor Oil. The deadline for the bids expired Feb 22.
Initially, HTSO plan was to call tenders for three private power generation units. Mr Lekatsas said that HTSO will call another tender for a second unit but he was cautious if there will be and a third tender, after the decision of Mytilineos Group to construct independently a 412 MW unit in Viotia, south of Greece.
“We welcome Mytilineos Group’s decision, which confirms the interest and trust on the Greek energy market,” Lekatsas said.
“Actually, these units should be built from independent companies without any state’s intervention,” he added.
