Enel SpA is looking at initiatives with OAO Gazprom in
Europe as part of its relations with the Russian energy behemoth and an
earlier accord, Fulvio Conti, chief executive of Italy's biggest
utility by market value, said Thursday.
"We are not only looking at the Russian market, but also at
other initiatives (with Gazprom)," he said in a press conference at the
World Energy Conference in Rome.
As part of an accord with Gazprom there is "reciprocity," said Conti, without elaborating.
The Rome-based utility has signed a deal with Gazprom
guaranteeing the transport of gas from Enel's assets in Russia to power
plants it will own in wholesale generator OAO OGK-5.
Earlier Thursday, Enel said it launched its bid for OGK-5
for 4.4275 rubles a share for the 62.85% of the Russia company it
doesn't own. Enel said in the event all OGK-5 shareholders accept, the
maximum price it will pay will be about EUR2.74 billion. The tender bid
lasts 80 days.
