Czech prime minister Mirek Topolanek said state-run power company CEZ AS (BAACEZ.PR) may request an environmental impact assessment over the potential construction of two new nuclear reactor units at its Temelin power plant, Hospodarske Noviny reports Monday.
Topolanek said that while CEZ and the Ministry of Environment prepare the environmental audit, the government will finalize its long-term energy strategy, the newspaper said.
The report quotes CEZ spokesman Ladislav Kriz saying CEZ could have the audit request ready in a matter of days.
CEZ wants to build new nuclear generation capacity. The company has 2,000 megawatts installed capacity at Temelin, and 1,760 megawatts of installed capacity at its Dukovany nuclear power plant.
