Iran plans to export natural gas from its Kish gas field in the Persian Gulf to Oman, the oil ministry's official Shana Web site reported Sunday.

The plans will be discussed by Iran's Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari during a visit to Oman in early September that will cover Omani investment into the Kish field and sending its gas to the sultanate for export in the form of liquefied natural gas, or LNG, Shana reported.

Iran hopes to sign a final agreement with Oman on the gas export deal by year-end, Shana reported. The two countries have already signed a memorandum of understanding.

Iran's semi-official Isna news agency Saturday reported National Iranian Offshore Oil Co.'s managing director Mahmoud Zirakchianzadeh as saying that the two countries were discussing transporting 1 billion cubic meters a day of natural gas from the Kish field to Oman.

Under the agreement, the gas would be priced based on international rates, Isna reported.

Oman would convert the Iranian gas into LNG for the National Iranian Oil Co., according to Isna.
