German Chancellor Angela Merkel will travel to Saint Petersburg on Oct. 2 for inter-governmental consultations between the German and Russian governments, her government said Thursday.
Merkel, who has been sharply critical of Russia's recent actions in Georgia but who has also pressed the lines of communication to remain open with Moscow, will be accompanied by several ministers, it said in a statement.
It was unclear if Merkel would meet with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev during the visit with further details due to be published at a later date, the statement said.
It will be the 10th round of inter-governmental talks between the two countries.
