Portuguese energy company Energias de Portugal SA (EDP.LB), or EDP, has frozen EUR200 million in solar energy projects in Spain due to changes in solar subsidies there, the Diario Economico newspaper says Wednesday.

EDP had no immediate comment.

Spain's government currently is preparing a proposal that would put a cap of 500 megawatts on photovoltaic solar energy projects that are entitled to subsidies next year, and of 300 MW in subsequent years.

EDP has frozen three photovoltaic projects with a combined capacity to generate 50 MW in electricity near the Spanish city of Zaragoza, the newspaper says.

Other companies, such as Martifer (MAR.LB), or BP Plc's (BP) solar unit, are also considering canceling solar projects in Spain, Diario Economico says.
