Oil production in western Iran has reached 164,000 barrels a day since the beginning of the Iranian new year, the Oil Ministry's official Shana news Web site reported Saturday, citing the managing director of the West Oil and Gas Exploitation Co.
The Iranian year ends March 20.
Mohsen Nouri said production from the country's western oilfields would surpass 300,000 barrels a day within the next three years, reported Shana.
Nouri said the region produced 120,000 barrels a day between March 2006 and March 2007, adding that production reached 158,000 barrels a day with the drilling of three new oil wells in joint oilfields, and after equipment and pipelines underwent major repair work, according to Shana.
