Iran has agreed to export 1 billion cubic feet a day of natural gas from its Kish natural gas field to Oman, the Oil Ministry's official Shana news Web site reported Tuesday.

The two sides reached an agreement after an Omani workgroup traveled to Tehran Sunday for talks, Shana said.

Iran and Oman signed a deal in April to jointly develop the Kish natural gas field at an estimated cost of between $7 billion and $12 billion, but a timeframe for the project was not provided at the time, reported Shana.

Iran's oil minister, Gholam Hossein Nozari, and an Iranian delegation held talks with Omani officials in Muscat early last month on exporting natural gas from Iran's Kish gas field in the Persian Gulf to Oman, Omani's investment in the Kish field, and having Oman convert the Iranian gas into LNG for the National Iranian Oil Co., according to previous Iranian media reports.

Shana did not specify a timeframe for the newly signed agreement.
