The heads of Russia's OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) and Ukraine's state gas company Naftogaz held talks in the Russian capital overnight Thursday on ways to end their gas crisis, news reports said, the first time they met since Moscow cut gas to Kiev.

"Tonight in Moscow talks took place between (Gazprom chief executive) Alexei Miller and (Naftogaz chief) Oleg Dubina during which they discussed ways to end the intensifying crisis situation," Russian news agencies quoted Gazprom's official spokesman, Sergei Kupriyanov, as saying.

Dubina and Miller previously met on Dec. 31 for talks that failed to reach any agreement, after which Moscow cut all Russian gas supplies to the domestic Ukrainian market.
