Greece and Albania to Seek Common Ground on Energy

The Institute of Energy for SE Europe (IENE) in co-operation with the Greek-Albanian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GACCI) is organizing a one-day conference in Tirana, on January 15th, 2009 to examine the co-operation between Greece and Albania in the energy sector.

The Institute of Energy for SE Europe (IENE) in co-operation with the Greek-Albanian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GACCI) is organizing a one-day conference in Tirana, on January 15th, 2009 to examine the co-operation between Greece and Albania in the energy sector. The conference, which is backed by the Albanian ministry of Economy, Trade and Energy and the Hellenic ministry of Development, will focus on latest developments in the electricity, oil and gas and renewables sector. Energy security issues will also be examined in the context of West Balkan developments related to energy market integration.

The scope of this one day Conference, on “Greek – Albania Cooperation in the Energy Sector”, is to review cooperation so far between Greek and Albanian energy companies and organizations but also explore the future prospects for a broader cooperation between Greece and Albania in the energy sector. The findings of this conference will be presented to the appropriate government authorities of the two countries. Overall, this unique gathering will aim towards the strengthening of ties and cooperation between the two countries.

The conference proceedings will be opened by Albania’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Energy, Mr. Genc Ruli, while the Deputy Minister Mr. Neritan Alibali will also make a presentation. Greece’s Ministry of Development, which is in charge of energy, will be represented by Dr. Raphael Moissis, Chairman of the National Energy Strategy Council (SEES). Other speakers will include Mr. Konstantinos Maniatopoulos, IENE’s Chairman, Mr. Emmanouil Zarogiannopoulos, GACCI’S Secretary General , Mr Costis Stambolis, IENE’s Executive Director, Mr. Gjergj Bojaxhi, General Director of the Albanian Electric Power Corporation (KESH), Dr. Dimitris Papakonstantinou, Head of Strategy, PPC, Dr. Evagelos Lekatsas, Chairman, Hellenic Transmission System Operator (HTSO), Mr. Spyros Palaioyannis, IENE’s Vice Chairman, Mr. Stavri Dhima, METE Expert, Mr. Naske Afezolli, TAP AG, Switzerland, Mr. Milo Kuneshka, Executive Director of the Albanian Agency of National Resources and several others.

The conference will take place at the Sheraton Tirana Hotel and is open to energy experts and energy company executives.
