MOSCOW (Dow Jones)--Russia could arrange the supply of gas to Slovakia through an exchange with neighboring Ukraine, which Moscow accuses of blocking transit shipments to Europe, OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) said Wednesday.

Alexei Miller, the chief executive of state-controlled Gazprom, said Russia could send gas to Ukraine, which could in turn supply Slovakia using gas it has in underground storage.

"Gazprom agrees to such an operation," Miller said. "It's up Ukraine to decide."

Gazprom is proposing sending 20 million cubic meters of gas to Slovakia and could also send some to Moldova, Miller said.

Some European nations have suffered as Russia halted gas exports to the region via Ukraine last week over a pricing and transit dispute.
