French utility GDF Suez (GSZ.FR) Wednesday confirmed it is in talks with Spanish peer Iberdrola SA (IBE.MC) that could lead to the two companies building nuclear reactors together in the U.K.
"We are in discussions with Iberdrola to develop a project in nuclear power in the U.K.," a spokeswoman for GDF Suez said by telephone.
The U.K. government, which is promoting a revival of nuclear power in the country, has asked companies to nominate sites where they would like to build new atomic reactors.
Electricite de France SA (1024251.FR) recently bought nuclear utility British Energy (BGY.LN), and already has advanced plans to build four reactors in the country on sites it acquired with the purchase of British Energy.
