The estimated EUR7.9 billion cost of the Nabucco gas pipeline may be revised due to the fall in steel prices, the project's Chief Executive Reinhard Mitschek said Wednesday, the Ihlas News Agency, or IHA, reported.

Mitschek told a news conference in Ankara that the starting point of the pipeline, which aims to bring natural gas from Central Asia to Europe via Turkey, could be Ankara or in eastern Turkey, adding that the Nabucco consortium would consider both alternatives positively.

In early 2008, the Nabucco consortium revised up the construction cost to EUR7.9 billion from a 2005 estimate of EUR4.6 billion.
