Spanish oil company Repsol YPF SA (REP) could bid for engineering and construction contracts at as many as 19 oil fields in Iraq, Cinco Dias reports Wednesday, citing company sources.
A Repsol press official told Dow Jones Newswires the company can only confirm a bid for an engineering, procurement and construction contract at the Nassiriya oil field in southern Iraq, but not for other oil fields.
"Iraq isn't part of our strategic plan," the official said. "None of our key projects is there."
Iraq is trying to bring foreign oil companies in to revive its production from a current 2.4 billion barrels a day to some 4.5 billion barrels a day, the newspaper says.
