CEO Christophe de Margerie said Monday he isn't concerned about a strike by workers at the company's Dunkirk refinery leading to a fuel shortage in France .

"For the time being there is no problem," he said, speaking to reporters in
New York .

Workers walked off the job at the refinery last Tuesday, protesting Total's postponement until June of a decision whether to permanently shut down the facility. Total idled the refinery in September and plans to reduce global refining capacity by 20%, citing weak margins.

Fears of a gasoline shortage began to mount in
France over the weekend, but de Margerie noted that Total is "not the only supplier," adding that "we'll find a solution to avoid this."

He said "fears of consumers" shouldn't be used to "put pressure" on either party to resolve the situation at
Dunkirk .
