Iraq's crude oil exports in February were up 7% at 2.069 million barrels a day, compared with 1.925 million barrels a day in the previous month due to an increase in crude oil production from southern oil fields, head of State Oil Marketing Organization, or SOMO, said Monday.

Falah Alamri told Dow Jones Newswires that Iraq exported 1.604 million barrels a day from the southern Basra oil terminal, up from 1.450 million barrels a day in January.

He attributed the increase in Basra Light crude exports to improvement in production.

Some 455,000 barrels a day were exported from the Kirkuk oil fields in northern Iraq through the Turkish port of Ceyhan, almost the same amount as in the previous month. The remaining 10,000 barrels a day were exported to Jordan by road, he said.

Alamri said that Iraq sold its crude oil at an average of more than $71 a barrel in February, generating total revenue of $4.1 billion, compared with $4.4 billion achieved in the previous month.

He said that Iraq's crude oil exports in March and the coming months would be at the same level as in February.
