French oil major Total SA's (TOT) Chief Executive Christophe de Margerie said Wednesday he doesn't believe a European carbon tax is feasible, and added that if such a tax were to be introduced it should be global or not at all.

that if such a tax were to be introduced it should be global or not at all.
Speaking in an interview with French television Public Senat, de Margerie said
that the French government plan for a carbon tax, which was abandoned Tuesday,
would have been detrimental to the group's competitiveness.
The group nevertheless maintains its own objectives in terms of carbon emission
reductions, de Margerie said.
