French state-controlled nuclear group Areva (CEI.FR) Friday said it has signed several deals with Italian companies and universities to develop nuclear projects in Italy.

The first agreement was signed with Ansaldo Energia, a unit of Ansaldo SpA
(STS.MI), which will partner Areva in Italy on a joint project with power
operators Enel SpA (ENEL.MI) and Electricite de France SA (EDF.FR) to build at
least four third-generation nuclear reactors.
Areva and Ansaldo will cooperate in engineering, the supply of certain
components, erection and commissioning tests for the Evolutionary Pressurized
Reactors that both Enel and EDF plan to build in
Italy
.
The two groups will also work on other projects around the world, Areva said,
without elaborating.
Areva also signed a deal with Italian industrial design and construction group
Techint to cooperate on future turnkey nuclear projects worldwide.
The French company signed a training agreement was signed with CIRTEN, an
inter-university consortium for nuclear research and technology which includes
the universities of Rome La Sapienza, Pisa, Padua, Palermo, Polytechnic Milan
and Polytechnic Turin.
