IENE’s One-Day Conference in Sofia to Promote Hellenic-Bulgarian Energy Co-operation

Well-known personalities of the energy sector from Bulgaria and Greece are gathering in Sofia , Bulgaria on April 29th, 2010 on the occasion of the one-day conference on “ Hellenic-Bulgarian Co-operation in the Energy Sector” organized by the Institute of Energy for SE Europe (IENE) in co-operation with the Hellenic Business Council in Bulgaria (HBCB) . The conference will review the cooperation so far between Greek and Bulgarian energy companies and organizations but will also explore the future prospects for a broader cooperation between Greece and Bulgarian in the energy sector

Well-known personalities of the energy sector from Bulgaria and Greece are gathering in Sofia , Bulgaria on April 29th, 2010 on the occasion of the one-day conference on “ Hellenic-Bulgarian Co-operation in the Energy Sector” organized by the Institute of Energy for SE Europe (IENE) in co-operation with the Hellenic Business Council in Bulgaria (HBCB) . The conference will review the cooperation so far between Greek and Bulgarian energy companies and organizations but will also explore the future prospects for a broader cooperation between Greece and Bulgarian in the energy sector.

The Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism of Bulgaria Mr. Traycho Traykov will speak in the opening session of the conference and will outline his government’s priorities in the energy sector. Other speakers from Bulgaria will include the following: the Chairman of the State Energy & Water Regulatory Commission of Bulgaria, Mr. Aangel Semerdjiev, the Ambassador at Large for Energy Security and Climate Change and Coordinator for the EU Nabucco Project, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bulgaria, H.E. Dr. Peter Poptchev, Mr. Ivan Drenovichki, Member and Executive Director, Bulgartransgaz EAD, Ms. Victoria Popovska, Head of Electricity Market Operator (ESO), Mr. Krassimir Parvanov, Executive Director, NEK, Ms. Kostadinka Todorova, Director of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Economy, Energy & Tourism, Mr. Velizar Kiriakov, President of the Association of Producers of Ecological Energy and Mr. Kaloyan Kanev, Deputy Chairman of the Bulgarian PV Association & Managing Director of 2EC.

On behalf of the Greek government, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment, Energy & Climate Change Mr. Constantinos Mathioudakis will participate, along with other Greek officials including Μr. Spyros Paleoyannis, Deputy Chairman of DEPA, Dr. John Kampouris, Director of System Planning, HTSO, Mr. George Koutzoukos, Special Advisor of the Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE). Moreover, there will be speeches by Mr. Christos Dimas, Managing Director of Transbalkan Pipeline S.A., the Chairman of IENE, Dr. John Desypris, Mr. Costis Stambolis, Deputy Chairman and Executive Director of IENE, Mr. Thomas Lamnidis, Partner, KLC Law Firm, Greece and Member of IENE’s Board of Directors, Mr. George Ftikas, Lawyer, KLC Law Firm, as well as by the Chairman of HBCB Mr. Ioannis Polykandriotis.

The “Hellenic-Bulgarian Co-operation in the Energy Sector” will focus on the  gas interconnection pipelines, electricity grid connections and wind farm development and, of course, will report the latest developments concerning the Burgas – Alexandroupolis oil pipeline, which still remains a key strategic project for both countries.
