The total capacity of Turkey's hydroelectric power plants, built by the private sector, will reach 1,000 megawatt by the end of this year, Turkish energy markets regulator EPDK chairman Hasan Koktas said Tuesday, the Ihlas News Agency, or IHA, reported.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of a hydropower plant in the southern city of
Adana , Koktas said total production capacity of hydroelectric power plants between January and October was 690 MW.

Hydroelectric power plants with 3,000 MW capacity will be operational between 2011 and 2012 under the most pessimistic scenario, he said.
