Poland and Russia have agreed on the wording of a long-awaited new
natural gas supply deal, with signing now dependent on the two country's
pipeline operators working out the detail of a contract of their own, a Polish
Economy Ministry spokeswoman said Monday.
The countries' existing gas supply contract expires next week, and the delay in
signing the deal has raised fears of supply disruptions.
Earlier Monday, Polish daily Rzeczpospolita cited Polish government officials
as saying the new contract would be valid until 2022, with
Russia
supplying
Poland
over
10 billion cubic meters of natural gas a year, 2 billion more than under the
current contract.
Russian gas company Gazprom OAO (GAZP.RS) is obliged to maintain gas transit to
Germany
through
Poland
until
2019.
"We have an agreed-upon text of the inter-governmental agreement,"
Iwona Dzygala said. "The agreement will be signed after the operator
contract has been worked out."
The pipeline operators are EuRoPolGaz SA and Polish Gaz-System SA.
