At least 200,000 electric vehicles will hit Bulgaria's roads by 2025, the Sofia-based Electric Vehicles Industrial Cluster (EVIC) has forecast.
This will account for a total of 3.0% of all cars in Bulgaria, news portal novinite.com reported on Tuesday, quoting an EVIC report.
The organization cautions that owners of electric vehicles must get a lot of tax breaks and other incentives from the state in order to fuel demand.
Some of the proposed measures include a state grant equal to 30% of a vehicle's sticker price as well as exemption from road tolls and parking fees.
The report further calls for the introduction of a special tax for families owning more than one vehicle running on fossil fuel.
