There is no treat of power outages in Bulgaria thanks to the country's huge electricity overproduction, caretaker prime minister Marin Raykov said.

Raykov explained that the reduced power capacity of Kozloduy nuclear power plant (NPP) will be made up for through increased production from hydropower plants, aiming to drain reservoirs across the country in danger of overflowing while contributing to relatively cheaper electricity in the final power mix, Darik radio station reported.

On Aril 3, Kozloduy NPP's two 1,000-megawatt units started operating at a lower capacity - of 750 and 500 megawatts (MW) - after the country's Electricity System Operator limited power generation in reaction to shrinking exports and domestic consumption and increased production from renewable sources.

Kozloduy NPP has suffered 19 million levs ($12.6 million/9.7 million euro) in losses as a result of the restrictions, the plant's CEO Valentin Nikolov said in an interview for Nova TV station.

In a separate motion, power distributors CEZ Razpredelenie Bulgaria and EVN Bulgaria on April 6 disconnected temporarily from their grids wind and photovoltaic plants. The measure affected power plants with total installed capacity of 46 MW in the regions of Pleven and Lovech, as well as some 40% of green energy producers in southeastern Bulgaria.
