Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB.LN) said Monday it is considering the sale
of its retail, aviation and supply and distribution downstream businesses in
Italy
.
The potential sale builds on Shell's strategy to concentrate its global
downstream businesses where it can be most competitive. Recent examples include
the sale of refineries in the
U.K.
and
Germany
and
downstream businesses in
Finland
and
Sweden
as
well as the establishment of joint ventures in
Brazil
and
across
Africa
.
Shell's non-service station lubricants and marine businesses aren't part of
this announcement. This announcement also has no impact on the upstream, or
exploration and production, and gas and power businesses in
Italy
. These
businesses present strong growth opportunities for the company in
Italy
.
Italy
remains an important country for Shell, the company said.
Shell has
about 870 gas stations in Italy.
