Serbian
energy utility EPS has won all lots at a tender
for the sale of surplus electricity called by
Bosnian power utility Elektroprivreda Republike
Srpske (ElektroprivredaRS), Belgrade-based media
reported on Monday, quoting EPS director general
Aleksandar Obradovic.
Elektroprivreda RS published on October 28 a
tender for the sale of a total of 793,920
megawatt-hours (MWh) of surplus electricity for
delivery in 2015. The bidding deadline expired on
November 7.
EPS is now eyeing further tenders for the purchase
of electricity that are expected, news agency
Tanjug reported, quoting Obradovic.
In the aftermath of the record floods in May that
damaged Serbia's energy infrastructure while
disrupting production at coal mines that supply
its biggest power stations, energy minister
Aleksandar Antic has said that the country could
face an electricity shortfall of around 2.0
terawatt-hours in the winter.
In a bid to avert a power shortage during the
winter, EPS has called two tenders for the
delivery of a combined up to 516,000 MWh of
electricity through February 28.
In addition, the country's biggest coal-fired
power plant, TENT, has called a tender for the
delivery of up to 1.3 million tonnes of lignite
through March. The complex has a total installed
capacity of 3,288 megawatts.
A total of five bids were received in TENT's coal
supply tender, Obradovic said, adding that the
outcome will be known by the end of this week.
