Serbian oil and gas company NIS said on Friday it has commissioned
two cogeneration power plants in the northern Serbian town of Srbobran with a
combined gross electric output capacity of 2.0 megawatts (MW).
The plants
cost a combined 2.0 million euro ($2.5 million) and are expected to consume up
to 7.2 million cubic metres of gas annually, NIS said in a
statement.
U.S. company Caterpillar was the equipment supplier on the
project while local company Tehnox Group performed the construction
works.
NIS now has in commercial operation seven small power plants in
five locations with a combined capacity of 6.2 MW. By the end of the year, the
company will commission another four power plants with total capacity of 5.3
MW.
Total investments in small power plants on NIS gas or oil fields has
now reached 15 million euro, the company said.
NIS, majority-owned by
Russia's Gazprom Neft, is one of the largest vertically integrated oil and gas
companies in Southeast Europe. Its main activities include the exploration,
production and processing of oil and gas, as well as the production and retail
of a wide range of petroleum products.
