French heavy engineering group Alstom said on
Tuesday it has received two contracts worth a total of about 220 million euro
($260 million) for the supply and the maintenance of the power island of the 950
MW Kirikkale combined-cycle power plant located in Turkey’s central Anatolia
region.
Alstom said in a statement that it would supply the main power
train equipment components including two GT26 gas turbines, two heat recovery
steam generators, one steam turbine and three turbo-generators to South Korean
firm Samsung Construction and Trading (SCT), the engineering, procurement and
construction (EPC) contractor for the power project.
Alstom will also provide
installation and commissioning field advisory services to SCT during the
construction phase and ensure long-term maintenance services for up to 20 years
after commissioning.
The power plant, located in the province of
Kirikkale, is expected to be commissioned in May 2017.
The Kirikkale
power project is developed by Acwa Guc Elektrik Isletme ve Yonetim Sanayi ve
Ticaret, which is a unit of Saudi Arabian power projects developer ACWA Power
Power and includes SCT as a shareholder. The project will be operating on a
merchant basis selling the dependable power capacity and electricity dispatched
via bilateral contracts and in the balancing/day-ahead market, Alstom
noted.
Since the start of its activities in Turkey in the 1950s, Alstom
has supplied key equipment for more than 25% of Turkey’s installed power
generation capacity and approximately 50% of the installed transmission products
of Turkish Electricity Transmission Company (TEIAS), the French company
added.
