Romanian
refiner Rompetrol Rafinare said its Petromidia refinery, located in the Black
Sea town of Navodari, processed a record quantity of more than 5 million tonnes
of raw materials in 2014.
The total amount processed since 1979, when the
refinery wascommissioned,exceeded 100 million tonnes, Rompetrol Rafinare said
in a statement on Monday.
Petromidia is the main asset of Rompetrol
Rafinare, which ispart of the Netherlands-basedKMG International NV,formerly
The Rompetrol Group.KMG International is fully owned by Kazakh state energy
company KazMunaiGaz Group.Rompetrol Rafinare, which alsooperates a smaller
refinery, Vega Ploiesti, the only Romanian polymer producer.
“Thanks to
the investments carried out by KMG International and KazMunayGas in the upgrade
and processing capacity increase, together with investments for the development
of the petrochemistry sector, the supply of crude oil and the nation-wide and
regional distribution of fuels, the Black Sea refinery achieved operational
historic records in 2014," Rompetrol Rafinare said in the
statement.
Petromidia's diesel fuel production increased to2.43 million
tonnes last year from1.91 million tonnes in 2013, diesel fuel yields rose
to48.8% from46% in 2013 andwhite products yields edged up to85.7%
from85.5%.
Through the petrochemical division, Rompetrol Rafinare
reached the full capacity of polypropylene – 90,000tonnes in 2014, compared
to79,800tonnes in 2013.The refinery operated at peak capacity last year,
processed raw materials reaching 13,800 tonnes perday.
The total volume
of investments at the Petromidia platform reached approximately $1.4 billion
(1.2 million euro) between 2007, when it wasintegratedinto KazMunayGas,and
2014, of which $380 million was earmarked for the large scale modernisation of
the refinery.
